HOMEMADE CHILI SEASONING MIX

with No Comments

Today I made chili. It is the first time this year, so in my house it is kind of a big deal, and because it is the first this year, I also made a large batch of my homemade chili seasoning mix.  I don’t make chili that often because when it is hot out it is hard to get in the mood for chili, however lately I have been in the mood for some hearty comfort food.

As with my Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix, I like to make it myself. It saves me time, money, and it is much healthier than the packaged seasoning mixes you get in the store.  To save myself time, once a year I prepare a large batch of Chili Seasoning Mix to keep in my pantry.  That way there when I make chili I don’t have to measure out each individual spice, or go through my spices when I am making out my grocery list.  As long as I have my container of seasoning mix, I am good to go, and I just have to add the other chili ingredients to my shopping list.

Also, since I only make the seasoning mix once a year so I know that come next October I should get rid of whatever wasn’t used, and make a new batch. If you are using fresh spices and store it in an airtight container it will last for up to a year.  I get 3-4 batches of chili out of the recipe below.
