A dump cake is one of the easiest and quickest desserts you can make. It takes only 60 seconds
to throw together and pop into the oven. It can be a real lifesaver when you've just discovered you
have company coming over in a few minutes and need something
quick.

A dump cake recipe is also a great choice when you're just being lazy and don't have a lot of
energy to waste.  Dump everything in a cake pan, toss it into the oven, and wait until the aroma of
freshly-baked cake finds you resting on the couch. Then it's time to eat!

Ingredients
  • A cake mix (or muffin or brownie mix)
  • A can of fruit or fruit filling

What's great about cooking a dump cake in a cast iron
dutch oven is that it is really easy to toast the top of the
cake. That just happens naturally when using a dutch

Even though there are only two basic ingredients in a dump cake, you can have a lot of fun mixing
and matching different cake mixes and fruit fillings. Here are three of our favorites:

Yellow cake mix with pineapple rings
A bright, cheerful cake with the flavor complexity of sweet and sassy pineapple.

Lemon poppy seed muffin mix with canned pears
A warm blend of texture (chewy crust and crunchy poppy seeds) and soft and sweet fruit.

Chocolate brownie mix with cherry pie filling
A wonderfully rich dessert, especially if you use a premium brownie mix. Be careful -- a little goes a
long way!
